education & outreach
While a single person or small group can create immense change they can only do so with the support of others. Creating pollinator habitat and reducing pesticide use in your own yard or neighborhood park is a great place to start, but to have a significant impact you must inspire others to take similar steps to protect and support pollinators. Bee City USA and Bee Campus USA encourage individuals to create change in their own sphere while also educating, engaging, and inspiring others to do the same. Collaborative community efforts are required to support the ecological communities with which our lives are intertwined, and the first step is education and outreach.
Bee City USA affiliates commit to host or co-host at least one pollinator awareness event each year. The focus of these events should be on native pollinators and the steps we can take to conserve them.
Bee Campus USA affiliates commit to incorporate information about native pollinators and pollinator conservation into courses or continuing education opportunities and offer service-learning projects related to enhancing pollinator habitat each year.
All affiliates are encouraged to display signage focused on pollinator conservation and publicly acknowledge their affiliation with signs. Affiliates also maintain an online presence to share information about their activities as well as their native plant list, native plant supplier list, and integrated pest management plan.
